Reporter – Real Estate M&A & Financing | New York | $80,000

Location:New York
Salary:$80,000

A leading global provider of business intelligence, data, analytics and events for private markets professionals is looking for a talented financial or business journalist to join its New York-based editorial team.

This is an opportunity for a journalist with some experience in financial or business reporting who enjoys source-driven journalism and wants to develop specialist expertise covering the credit and financing behind real estate fund M&A.

You don’t need to be an expert in credit markets. The successful candidate will receive training and support to develop their knowledge of real estate finance, private credit, debt markets and transaction structures. What matters most is your ability to find and develop sources, build a strong contact book and turn conversations with industry professionals into original stories.

The company publishes a portfolio of specialist publications covering different investment verticals. You will join a talented team of editors and reporters producing a mix of breaking news, original reporting and regular in-depth deep-dive stories for an audience of sophisticated private markets professionals.

Your reporting will focus on the financing behind real estate fund mergers and acquisitions, looking beyond the headline transaction to understand how deals are funded, who is providing the capital and what the financing tells us about the wider market.

You will build relationships with sources across real estate investment firms, private equity, banks, private credit funds, lenders, institutional investors and financial advisers, developing the knowledge and contacts needed to break original stories.

Key responsibilities

  • Report on the credit and financing behind real estate fund M&A.
  • Produce a mix of daily news, exclusive stories, original reporting and regular deep-dive features.
  • Build and develop a strong network of sources across real estate, finance and private markets.
  • Speak regularly with senior industry professionals to uncover news, market intelligence and emerging trends.
  • Investigate how major real estate transactions are financed, including the role of banks, private credit providers, lenders and other sources of capital.
  • Develop an understanding of real estate debt, credit markets and transaction financing through training and hands-on reporting.
  • Turn source conversations and market intelligence into accurate, compelling and original journalism.
  • Develop deeper stories examining the trends, structures and people shaping real estate financing and M&A.
  • Work closely with editors and fellow reporters to identify new story opportunities and deliver high-value coverage for subscribers.

About you

You will have some professional experience in financial journalism, business journalism or a related reporting environment and a genuine interest in developing specialist knowledge of financial markets.

You don’t need to have previous experience covering credit markets or real estate finance. We are looking for a journalist with strong source-building and reporting skills who is curious, persistent and capable of developing expertise in a complex specialist area.

You should be confident approaching and interviewing industry professionals, building relationships with sources and using those contacts to uncover information that isn’t readily available elsewhere.

Most importantly, you will be someone who enjoys source-driven journalism and wants to develop a career covering a specialist area of the financial markets.

The role offers the opportunity to learn about credit, private debt, real estate finance and M&A while working alongside experienced editors and reporters in a specialist private markets newsroom.
